About APhA

The American Pharmacists Association, founded in 1852 as the American Pharmaceutical Association, represents more than 60,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and others interested in advancing the profession. APhA, dedicated to helping all pharmacists improve medication use and advance patient care, is the first-established and largest association of pharmacists in the United States.

The Association is a leader in providing professional information and education for pharmacists and an advocate for improved health of the American public through the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care.

Mission (Adopted by the APhA Board of Trustees – September 2006): APhA is the organization whose members are recognized in society as essential in all patient care settings for optimal medication use that improves health, wellness, and quality of life.

Vision (Adopted by the APhA Board of Trustees – September 2006): The American Pharmacists Association provides information, education, and advocacy to empower its members to improve medication use and advance patient care.

About the APhA Foundation

The APhA Foundation is a not for profit 501 (c)(3) organization headquartered in Washington, DC and is affiliated with the American Pharmacists Association.  The APhA Foundation provides innovative programs and projects that contribute to new information and fresh ideas for pharmacists to use in retooling their practices to satisfy the contemporary health needs of their patients.

Mission: To improve the quality of consumer health outcomes that are affected by pharmacy.

The APhA Foundation looks to create a new medication use system where patients, pharmacists, physicians and other health care professionals collaborate to dramatically improve the cost effectiveness and quality of consumer health outcomes.
The Foundation conducts research demonstration projects, such as its Project ImPACT, and its latest initiative, the Patient Self Management Program, a project that aims to combat the effects that chronic diseases have on America's workforce.  Along with demonstration projects, the Foundation offers programs to pharmacists such as the Advanced Practice Institute, the National Clinical Issues Forum and the Incentive Grants for Practitioner Innovation in Pharmaceutical Care.  These programs encourage pharmacists to advance their professional practice with further training to establish, market and provide patient care services within their practice setting.

The Foundation hosts the Pinnacle Awards each year to recognize health professionals' contributions to the health care system.  The Annual Fund campaign is an on-going activity to raise individual and corporate contributions to continue to support Foundation related projects and programs, including a student scholarship program.
